Subaru Forester Length by Year
Subaru’s 2026 Forester specifications list the standard Forester at 183.3 inches and the Wilderness at 182.9 inches. Earlier lengths come from Subaru’s 2022 specifications and from Kelley Blue Book for 2024, 2018 and 2014.

Will a Forester Fit in Your Garage or Parking Space?
Garages and parking structures differ, so measure yours instead of relying on a “standard” size. Here is the arithmetic, using Subaru’s figures.
- Depth. The 2026 Forester is 183.3 inches long. In a garage that is 240 inches (20 feet) deep, that leaves 56.7 inches for walking space and storage (our example).
- Door height. A 7-foot door is 84 inches tall. The 2026 Forester at 68.1 inches clears it by 15.9 inches, and the Wilderness at 69.3 inches by 14.7 inches (our calculation).
- Width. The Forester is 81.2 inches wide with mirrors. Check the door opening with mirrors out, not just the 72.0-inch body width.
- Roof gear and hitch loads. A roof box, bike rack or hitch carrier changes the height or length. Read the accessory maker’s listed dimensions and add them to the car’s before you pull in.
- Parking structures. Use the posted clearance sign, not a guess, and compare it with the car’s height plus any roof gear.
Subaru lists a 35.4-foot turning circle (34.5 feet on the Wilderness), which helps with tight turns. For a smaller Subaru, see our guide to how long a Subaru Crosstrek is, and for model choice see the best year of Subaru Forester.
Forester Cargo Space and Interior Volume
Subaru’s 2026 sheet lists the base Forester at 29.6 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 74.4 cubic feet with them down. Trims with the panoramic moonroof list 27.5 and 69.1 cubic feet, and the cargo liftover height is 28.9 inches (Wilderness: 29.5 inches). The EPA interior volume is 140.4 cubic feet for the base model and 134.1 cubic feet for the others. If you carry long items, the maximum load length at the floor with the rear seatbacks down is 70.7 inches.
