On the 2021 Rogue, Nissan’s bulletin NTB21-076 covers warm air when the vehicle idles in Drive with the A/C on, and calls for confirming the ECM part number and reprogramming the ECM if applicable. On other years we did not find a single published cause, so a shop should measure the pressures and check for leaks.
Rogue AC Compressor Not Engaging, or Pressure Not Changing
If the compressor does not engage, or gauge pressures do not change when it should be running, the 2021 bulletins are worth knowing. The compressor not engaging with DTC B20C8-14 stored in the IPDM E/R is the subject of NTB21-034, which was amended to remove the Rogue (NTB21-034A). The Rogue is covered by NTB21-072, which says to update the IPDM E/R to the latest software version. Nissan’s NTB21-058 covers a “may need maintenance” message tied to the same code.

Which Refrigerant Does a Nissan Rogue Use?
Do not guess. A site that republishes Nissan’s Rogue service manual (the page does not name a model year) says to always use HFC-134a (R-134a) for A/C refrigerant, and warns about open flame, breathing the vapor and container hazards. An Automotive Tech Info article from July 2019 says Nissan started moving some U.S. vehicles to R-1234yf with the 2019 model year, that all U.S. vehicles must use it from the 2021 model year, and that the service ports are a different size and shape. Read the under-hood label for your car. We did not find a reliable year-by-year refrigerant charge for the Rogue, so we do not list one.
Can I Recharge the Rogue AC Myself?
EPA rules prohibit venting refrigerant, and require Section 609 certification for anyone who services a vehicle A/C system for payment.
